About Maryweave Studio and Handweaving

Located in the gentle, rolling foothills of rural Maine, Maryweave studio was founded in 1979 by Theresa Lagoy as a means of self-support for her life of contemplative solitude and prayer.

Theresa Lagoy weaving stoles with inset of handspinning       Most days you will find Theresa at her loom weaving or at her spinnning wheel preparing wool yarn for Maryweave stoles. Her hermitage/studio is located in Jackson, Maine where she maintains her quiet lifestyle in the Carmelite tradition. If asked what inspires her hand-woven stole and chasuble designs she will say, "It is prayer and the gentle beauty of the surrounding countryside".

Vestments used in liturgical worship should be beautiful, enhance the celebration and be symbolic of it. How fitting when they, like the bread and wine, are the "work of human hands", designed and woven in an atmosphere of reverence and prayer.
